Athletes' Impact

Social Media Risks
As a student athlete at the University of Colorado, I aim to shed light on the perils social media poses to athletes' mental health. Join me in raising awareness and supporting fellow athletes facing similar challenges. Let's navigate the digital world together, empowering each other to prioritize mental well-being amidst the pressures of social media. Together, we can create a safer online environment for athletes to thrive both on and off the field.

Research/ Stats Page
"According to a 2021 NCAA study 38% of females athletes and 22% of male athletes reported feeling overwhelmed by anxiety -- With social media being a top contributor"

A whopping 46 percent of teens reported social media made them feel worse about themselves. “Comparison can be a really big problem, especially for athletes,” Sumler says. “And comparison on social media is especially problematic because on these platforms, we're really only seeing people's highlight reel rather than their real life.”

''Athletes should be mindful of how much social media they absorb and how it can impact their emotions. It is important to set boundaries on how much time they spend on social media and at what time of day. They need to make sure not to allow social media use to take away from their everyday activities and self-care.''
